If you are not into green beer, Irish coffee or whiskey then you might find this interesting. Did you know that March 17th isn’t just St. Paddy’s Day, but also Italy’s birthday? Celebrate Italy’s 151st birthday this month with a “Viva Italia!” Italian-inspired cocktail! Italy has been particularly influential in cocktail culture this year as these Italian before-dinner drinks have been growing in popularity seeing the resurgence of the “aperitivo moment”!

Aperol is Italy’s #1 spirit and is an orange liqueur derived from a secret recipe that has remained unchanged since it was created in 1919. Aperol’s signature drink, The Spritz, is a mix of Aperol, Prosecco with a splash of soda making it a perfect champagne alternative to toast Italy’s birthday!

Aperol Spritz
1.5 oz of Aperol
2 oz. of Processco or other dry sparkling wine
Ice cubes and slice of orange
Splash of Soda
Combine all ingredients. Serve in a wine glass over ice

Campari is a world renowned red Italian spirit, made with a unique secret blend of herbs and spices with oranges as a predominant flavor! Campari’s classic cocktail the Negroni has a rich history, created in the 1920s by Count Camillo Negroni, standing the test of time since! The Negroni is a combination of equal parts gin, sweet vermouth and Campari!

The Negroni

¾ oz Red Vermouth
¾ oz gin
Mix ingredients and pour over ice. Garnish with a slice of orange

So whether you are celebrating St Patrick’s Day or Italy’s Birthday, have a safe and amazing weekend!! If you make any of these cocktails, please let me know how they turned out and if you have any other Mar 17th inspired cocktails – please post and share!
