When I got Bobby Flay`s Burgers, Fries, and Shakes as a gift from my Mom I was super excited to read through all the yummy recipes. The pictures and descriptions in the book instantly made me hungry. One weekend I decided to choose a burger recipe to make for my brother Brian and my Boyfriend Ryan. Yes Brian and Ryan, I know it rhymes and its funny because when I say Brian to get his attention I end up getting Ryan`s and vice versa. They are great guinea pigs and always enjoy when I offer to cook for them.
I chose to make little burger sliders so I could pick two recipes and try them both, smart thinking right?! The 2 burger recipes I chose were the Carolina Burger and the Caesar Salad Burger. I made both types of burgers with Angus ground beef, a little salt, and lots of pepper. I didn’t mix anything else in the burger like onions, egg, or breadcrumbs because Bobby clearly states `that if you do that you would have meatloaf. And if you wanted meatloaf, well then you should just go make that instead.`
The Carolina Burger is like a pulled pork sandwich made into a burger, dripping in BBQ sauce and topped with creamy coleslaw. The recipe Bobby came up was fantastic. You top his burger with a homemade mustard BBQ sauce and green onion slaw. The flavours were awesome, sweet, vinegary, and spicy.
The hit of the night was the Caesar Salad Burger. It was so simple to put together and the taste blew my mind! The key to this burger is the Caesar Mayo, fresh ground pepper in the beef patty, and freshly grated Parmesan cheese to put on top.
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp dijon mustard
2 cloves garlic, chopped
2 anchovy fillets
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
2 dashes of Tabasco sauce
2 dashed of Worcestershire
1/4 tsp ground pepper
2 tbsp fresh grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for topping
Blend all the ingredients in a food processor until smooth. Put into a bowl and stir in the cheese. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 mins so all the flavors can meld together.
Top this burger with fresh romaine leaves and more cheese – um num num! A seriously great burger!!
This book has so many more amazing recipes that I really want to try, a burger influenced by Greece and another one from Louisiana. Bobby also gives you a how to on making the perfect french fries. The recipe for homemade potato chips has my mouth watering right now. And of course we cant forget about all the delicious milkshakes you can find in this book. From the mocha caramel milkshake to the peanut butter-banana-marshmallow milkshake the possibilities seem endless.
