A Taste of Hawker Bar: Ossington’s Newest Hotspot

A Taste of Hawker Bar: Ossington’s Newest Hotspot

Last Tuesday night Hawker Bar open their doors and their kitchen to friends and family for a taste of what’s to come from the newest addition to the popular restaurant strip. You could feel the love as soon as you walked in, maybe from all the people who had come out to support their friends or from the red heart coloured walls and accents around the restaurant. It was small, cozy and alive with excitement inside, I loved the wood inspired decor. The smells of sweet curry and grilling meat that filled the air made me literally say “mmmmm” out loud as I took my seat. We tried a few items from the menu – everything sounded great. Prices were great and the food is easy to share – so come in to try a few items off the menu and enjoy! We tried the...

My Faves From the CRFA Show 2012 – Canada’s Food Service Event of the Year!

My Faves From the CRFA Show 2012 – Canada’s Food Service Event of the Year!

The CRFA Food Show at the Direct Energy Centre this month was a blast to take part in. So many different vendors and food from snacks and dips to beer and pizza ovens, there was lots to see and taste.  It was all a little over whelming at first, the place was huge and I didn’t know where to start. There were so many people cooking up a storm and promoting their different products to wholesalers and restaurants. This made it interesting to come to this event as a food blogger because lots of these products you can’t find in retail stores. It was a pretty exciting day and I definitely left wanting to write about some of the cool products I tried. So I decided to post the stand out ones and tell you how and where you can get them. Indian Harvest...

Singapore Street Food At Hawker Bar

Singapore Street Food At Hawker Bar

Hawker Bar is creating quite the buzz here on the Ossington Strip. The new Singapore street style restaurant set to open this month is inspired by the Hawker stalls of Singapore where the street food originates. Check out this link where Chef Anthony Bourdain explores Singapore and the hawker stalls there. Hawker bar is a boutique restaurant that will seat no more than 25 people and is brought to us by the owners of Poutini’s. The two brothers and friends Casimir Alyea, Andrew Mistry, and Nick and Fred Laliberte are the restaurateurs behind 164 Ossington Ave. Together they are excited to embark on a new journey in hospitality, all stemming from their ten month long adventure through Australia in 2004. Here they discovered Singapore street food and have been...

Tuna Burgers

If you avoid fast food chains because you find that the food is far too unhealthy and greasy, then you are in luck, because my recipe uses fresh, good quality ingredients with only a small amount of oil. In addition, I find grilling or roasting the patties is a much healthier alternative to frying. It may take a little longer to grill rather than fry, but this is the perfect time to either start making some spicy fries to go with it, or just relaxing for half an hour and playing FoxyBingo. My tuna burger recipe below makes a delicious and healthy meal, which tastes great as well as being low in fat. Tuna Burger 1 fresh tuna steak 1 can of sweetcorn 2 spring onions 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise Fresh parsley Method 1. Begin by mashing the tuna steak with the...
